The Porsche 996 has become a much-loved modern classic of the 911 line, and Infinity Design developed this intake on the team's own low-mileage 2002 C4S. Development began by 3D-scanning the engine bay and 3D-printing a carbon-nylon prototype for real-world testing.

The design centres on a large venturi inlet tube with an integrated MAF sensor feeding a bespoke high-surface-area filter with a 170 mm (6¾") opening inside a large, sealed airbox. The snorkel cross-section is twice that of OEM and the airbox volume is significantly larger, creating an effective velocity stack and a much smoother path for incoming air. The latest revision uses a short, quickly flaring GT3-style inlet tube and a dual-feed airbox similar to later 911 models, with CFD showing smoother airflow and a cross-sectional area roughly three times larger before the filter.

Performance Testing

Both road and dyno testing were carried out. On an inertia Dynojet, gains were +3–4 whp between 4500–5500 rpm and +6–11 whp over 6000 rpm, peaking at +11 whp @ 7000 rpm. On a load-based Maha MSR 500 dyno the curve was fuller, showing +6–8 whp from 4500–7300 rpm with no low-rpm loss. This equates to roughly +8–12 flywheel hp above 4500 rpm — a genuine, realistic gain over an already-efficient OEM intake. The latest revision recorded a healthy +15 wheel hp.

Features

  • +8–12 flywheel hp (real-world, above 4500 rpm)
  • Large venturi inlet tube with integrated MAF sensor
  • Sealed large-volume airbox with bespoke 170 mm filter
  • Snorkel cross-section twice the OEM area
  • To be produced in pre-preg autoclave carbon fibre, gloss or matte
  • Improved throttle response and induction sound
